About Me

Photo of Gemma

Currently based in Ipswich I graduated from the Edinburgh College of Art in July 2005 with a degree in performance costume. During my course I studied many different aspects of costume design and production and have acquired various skills, which allow me to work in a variety of areas within the costume world. I have learnt both basic and historical pattern cutting skills, varied textile techniques from printed textiles such as devore to machine manipulated techniques and hand embroidery. I am also well equipped in design, research and illustration techniques as well as being able to turn my hand to prop making, millinery and set design. I also have a great interest in historical fashion and making and working on that type of work is definitely one of my strengths.

Outside of college I have had experience in producing and sourcing costumes for film and sourcing and making costumes for a youth theatre group.

As well as costume work I have recently begun to make bespoke baby gifts and clothing, as well as designing making formal gowns and dresses. So if you need an extra special gift for a newborn baby or a unique dress for that special day then I am the person you need.

Although I am based in Ipswich I would be happy to travel anywhere (within reason and that a train line runs to) and if you would like to contact me, please use email or the webform on my contact details page. I am happy to answer any questions about my work and will happily consider any offers. Enjoy the rest of my site.
